    The egg.

Using Darwin's theory of evolution, we conclude that the chicken evolved from organims (the first birds like Archaeopteryx) that laid eggs. These first birds evolved from reptiles and so on back. Thus, eggs were lain that contained the first moder chickens. The species is fit enough to survive until this day.

Scientists think that they've found the answer:

    the egg.

from what I understand, say the mothers a, ummm, hawk. so when the hawk lays an egg, and the content of this egg is what would be the first chicken, then the egg itself is a chicken egg, because a chicken egg can't contain a kangaroo or some other animal.

I hope I didn't mess it up more

The Chicken. God created all animals but it was never mentioned that he had to wait for all these things to grow, Reason because then they would have to have a mother to help raise them if that was the case. Many things would then have to come like the eggs. So he made a chicken, fully grown and all, then the chicken had eggs. Wala. there's your answer.

The egg. Birds are thought to descend from reptiles, which lay eggs. If you believe in evolution, at some point some chicken-like critter laid an egg and the first-ever bone fide chicken was hatched.

I think the egg, because a chicken can't exist without being born. The chicken must've been part of evolution.

    The egg

The chicken came first because in the Holy Bible it tells you that God created all the animals and said nothing about the eggs.

the egg- if you believe in evolution; some chicken-like creature must of laid one...

    or

the egg- if you believe in Christianity or any other religion that implies that 2 chicken walked on an ark and survived a global flood. (Noah's Ark)

I personally believe the egg came first.

The egg. Actually they evolved from dinosaurs. A few eggs survived extinction and were buried deep inside the earth's crust but slowly resurfaced after meteors hit the earth. After a slow hibernating process, the eggs hatched and then we have our chickens.

Chicken, the egg couldn't have survived on its own.
