Does anyone know of a good SPEECH to TEXT program?

I have trouble typing, and am on disability, would like to know of a FREE or CHEAP speech to text program, where I can just talk and it would type for me. Thanks

If you have Windows XP then you already have a good speech dictation/recognition system built in. Additional capabilities can be added using the e-Speaking (website below) Voice and Speech Recognition software.

Microsoft has a good summary on their website called: "How to install and configure speech recognition in Windows XP" (see references below).

The combination of Microsoft's software and e-Speaking should enable you to accomplish great things with voice recognition.

Check out the Speech Recognition videos at YouTube

The latest versions of Microsoft Office have speech-recognition built-in. If you already have Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007, you just need to make sure the feature is installed and then turn it on. Please note that this technology isn't 100% accurate, and may need to be "trained" to your specific voice.

One third-party programs that can accomplish the same thing, and maybe a little more accurately is Dragon Naturally Speaking.

As for the question of cost, if you already have MS Office 2003 or newer, there is no additonal cost to use it's built-in speech recognition features. If you purchase the cheapest version of Dragon, it will set you back about $100.
