    It's actually a galaxy.

    It's an augmented version of Galaxy Arp 220 (a galaxy enshrouded in dust). The picture appears to be turned upside down and had purple whisps added to it.

    It looks like it could be galaxy Arp 220, but the picture has been enhanced a bit. Or it could be simple CGI.
