Who thinks that Rags to Riches has a chance in the Belmont?

Yes, I think Rags to Riches would have a great shot at winning the Belmont. She's an excellent filly, well rested after the Oaks run, and she's Jazil's sister... so we know she can run the distance since her brother won the race last year. Pletcher said if all 3 of the big 3 (Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun) run the Belmont, then Rags to Riches probably won't... I think that's disappointing... She might not win against those 3, but I think she could certainly be competitive against them... I'd like to see where she ends up. I think she could manage a third if not better. The Big 3 are gonna be awfully tired coming into the Belmont after running 2 hard races in 5 weeks. And I really wonder whether Street Sense and Hard Spun can run the extra quarter mile... and Curlin too... although his breeding says he can do it. I know the trainer has to run the horse where she's gonna win, but I think Pletcher ought to give Rags her shot at the Belmont. She's the best filly i've seen in quite a while...

Winning Colors was much more of a shorter distance horse. Even the mile and a quarter in the Derby was pushing it for her... she had a big lead which closed up during the stretch... she only won the Derby by a half length.

Silverbulletday ran the Belmont... she came in 7th... she too was a shorter distance horse... most of her wins were at a mile and an eighth or a mile and a sixteenth.

I think Rags to Riches has more of a chance to win the Belmont than either of those fillies... she works out with Circular Quay, so she's used to running with the colts. And she's bred for distance. I'd love to see Rags to Riches run... even if she doesn't win... she's a great filly... if she doesn't get a shot at the boys, then no filly would.

Rags to Riches is a sharp filly with a lot of talent, and she's bred to get the distance of the Belmont. But I think Curlin just may have the kind of talent that will put him on track for a position in the Hall of Fame, and that makes it hard for me to believe that Rags to Riches can beat him.

I also have to say this: as a rule, 3-year-old fillies are more likely to beat colts in the autumn than in the spring or summer. I know that nowadays they put racing fillies on Regumate or some other steroid program to keep them from coming into heat, but from May through August is when fillies and mares are cycling most strongly. If Rags to Riches were mine, I think I'd forget the Belmont and keep her with the filly division until the autumn, try to win enough races in her own division to assure an Eclipse Award for that, then try her against colts in the fall.

She's got races like the CCA Oaks coming up in her division that mean as much to her for a championship as the Belmont does for colts, and a hard race in the Belmont could knock her out for some of the races in her own division. I'd like to see her do enough to assure the Eclipse Award for three-year-old fillies before she goes against colts. If she goes in the Belmont and has a hard race, she might not be able to do enough later on to assure the Eclipse Award for 3-year-old fillies.

This seems like a really good crop of 3 year old colts this year so if her owners are foolish enough to run her, chances are she gets squashed. Maybe I am wrong, but the last filly I remember in the Belmont was Winning Colours and she was all done at the top of the stretch and all she had done was win the Derby

Some spot to have her try the colts for the first time. She is a standout filly in a very so-so 3yo crop of racers and I just don't see the sense in having her entered in the race. I think this one has more to do with the egos of ownership than anything else. I see her off the board and I hope not ruined like the last "super" filly, Sweet Catomine, who was abruptly retired after a controversial quest by her owner to toss the filly onto the Triple Crown trail.

Rags to Riches worked a half-mile in 48.24 seconds on Monday at Belmont Park. Pletcher said her participation in the Belmont depends on the Triple Crown's big three.

"If all three of them run, I would say it's doubtful that we would," Pletcher said. "If two of the three run then we have a decision to make. If only one runs then maybe we would take a shot. Those three have shown in the first two legs that they're very high-quality horses, and it might be a bit much to take on all three of them."

I said before the Derby that she was Todd Pletcher's best shot to win that race. I certainly think she's his best shot to win this one as well.

i felt she was the best 3 year old..point blank...i would love to see her run against those tired boy horses, the pace would be not that quick, and that would be a real horse-race baby....
