Recovery after stents put in?

My husband had 4 stents put in on Thursday (he's only 35 but he had some severe blockages in his coronary artery). They went in through his groin (left and right - long story). He's now on a bunch of medications, including aspirin, blood thinner, cholesterol lowering meds, and blood pressure meds. His blood pressure was 150/100 before the meds. Now he's feeling very fatigued, and light headed. Is that normal after what he's been through? I'm mostly worried about the light headedness, perhaps the blood pressure medication is working too well?

I recently went through the same thing. I had a heart attack and then had 2 stents put in. While I was in the hospital they started me on blood pressure medication. I was feeling dizzy when I stood up. They checked my blood pressure and it was something like 90/50. They made some adjustments to my medication and got it right. I felt somewhat weak and light-headed for a while after being discharged but that was listed as a side effect from the medication. It has been almost 6 months now and I feel great.

My hubby had two stents done a few years ago (the funny thing is he a fit man, early 40's and a healthy eater.....but he smokes!). They put him on a laundry list of meds as they always do, it didn't help that he never regularly saw a doctor before that incident (no info to compare). He's still on many meds but the BP meds I found to be unnessary (I'm a paramedic). True, his BP was high in the hospital...but the stress from the setting and the blockage was to blame. Of course he is the king of second opinons and checked with his doctor.......of course I was right! :-P

If he is feeling light headed from normal activity then this could be a warning sign that the meds are either too strong or not strong enough. Have him checked out by his doctor and bring up coming off the BP pills for a week and going in for another checkup....Hopefully, they gave him a stress test. If not, smack your doctor! One every one to two years now, esp. with the stents.

    All the best!

I had an heart attack on 08/21/08.Stent were placed on 08/23/08.Considering the amount of pain and the recovery of the shock that it was an heart attack, adjusting to new diatery style and exercise I feel the recovery peroid must be three weeks if stents were placed through the conery artery from right or left high and a week if placed from hand.

Sounds like his blood pressure med is too large a dose. Call the doctor. He'll probably suggest cutting the pill in half, or otherwise reducing it.

Buy a blood pressure monitor to use at home. He needs to determine how low a BP value that he still feels good with.

I use my pill at 1/2 or 3/4 (1/2 and a 1/4) of the tablet. .My doctor said he's fine with me monitoring my blood pressure and adjusting the dose in small increments.

Source(s): I'm on all those meds, too.

I think you are leaning in the right direction. If your blood pressure drops to low you can become tired and light headed. Call your family doctor for a check up. Maybe they can reduce the dose of his BP meds. A good blood pressure should be 110 to 130 over 60 to 80

  • I work in a er. no it is not normal.hoe long has it been? sometimes when starting a new med it takes a few days for the body to get used to it. call his doctor or go to the nearest jewel or walgreens to check his blood pressure. Sometimes the meds are to strong and lower the pressure too much.

His blood pressure may be too low. He needs to speak to his doctor as several different things may be going on. This is not considered to be a "major" operation any more - so he should be feeling pretty good.
