how would i know employer has workmen comp ins.?

i was hurt at work im a motorcycle mechanic and i was road test bike when i laid down due to it was a old bike but anyway employer wants me not to report and they pay for my injury and pay me for week time to heal (road rash) california

    Yes, he has workman's comp. What is going on here is probably he has had other worker's comp claims in the past, and he is trying to "buy" you off so that his premiums won't go up. If you're willing to go for this "deal" you may be able to milk a few more paid days out of him.

    In order to be an employer they have to have workmens' comp. the rates are very high, and alot of employers choose to cough up the money for the medical care and time off rather than see the premiums rise.

    In Florida its mandatory for all employers to have workers comp insurance. If you go to any doctor/hospital they will ask about your financial arrangements to pay for the visit(s) so either way it will be found out and it can hurt you in future attempts to get insurance should you leave that company.
