Will Sony still fix an old PS2 (fat) with "Disk Read Error" for free?

I have an old PS2 (model 30001R) that has a case of the DRE's. Sony used to fix them if the warranty seal was intact. Mine is. Will Sony still repair my PS2 for free?

    they WILL fix it for free, but you will have to pay for shipping

    this is the easier way to do it, i did it myself after i dropped it and got a read disc error..

    however if you do this procedure, if will the void the warranty on your ps2, so you will not be able to send it in to get it fixed...
