CD-Rom Drive Ate my CD ...?

I was attempting to install a needed program for my distance education class last night. I inserted the install CD in the drive & closed it. All of a sudden, I heard a "weird" sound coming from the drive & attempted to open the drive. When I did, the install CD was partially stuck in the drive (going into the drive itself). I went to remove it & the door closed on the drive b/4 I could get it out.

When I got the door opened again, the CD was gone & the tray was empty. The CD has been "eaten" by the drive, and my CD drive is no longer operational as it says I have no free space available. I have 2 questions:

1. Is it possible to retrieve the "eaten" CD from the drive?

2. If it is possible & the CD is damaged, are there any techniques to restore it?

When I replace the CD drive, I intend to add another CD/DVD combo drive as I have an expansion bay on the tower. Just in case anything like this happens again.

TIA for any advice I can get ...

the CD is now probably damaged, it happened to me once, the cd was tear to pieces, but the drive was fine.

first you need to take the CD-ROM from the case, you can do this by removing the two covers in both sides of the case, then unscrew the drive and take it away and then you need to disassemble the drive to recover the CD.

if you don't want to get your hand dirty, take the case to a computer technician to do this for you.

The CD will be inside the CD-ROM Case if it has a cover. it will be inside the tower if it does not have a cover. Try taking the tower apart and see if you can see it.
