Oil Changes-How Often?

I own a 2006 Dodge Magnum that I drive only on the weekend. Question is how often should I change the oil. Every 3000 miles or every 3 months? Every month I drive it between 200-300 miles. At this rate it'll take me around 10 months to reach 3000 miles. Is it okay to change the oil every 10 months? If I change it every 3 months that's only about 1000 miles.

Sell the car to someone who will drive and appreciate it the way it is meant. A car rotting in a garage is no better than a car being driven into the ground.

It doesnt all depend on how often you change it or how many miles you put on before you change it. A main factor is the type of oil you use. You can get more out of a synthetic oil. I prefer Valvoline myself. Im sure you can get a good 6 months out of it if you only put 200-300 miles on it a month. I wish i could do the same i put 400 on mine a week :(

Every 3000 miles or 3 months is correct. if you wait 10 months the oil could possibly go bad and leave you in a world of trouble. It's better to be safe then sorry.

Synthetic oil gets changed LESS often. Every 5000 miles.

My owner's manual for my subaru says every 7.5 months or 7000 miles. Check your manual. If you're worried then change the oil every 4 months no matter how little you drive it.

every 3000 miles unless it gets a crapload of use. When you use it are you going on really log strenuous trips?if so I'd say every 3-4 months.

my mechanic says it's every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever is first. waiting "too long" to change the oil can reduce it's viscosity & effectiveness.

once a year or every 7500 miles i would suggest a little more though maybey 2 times a year (better to have car running smoothly)

Check the manufacturers recommendation guide. It should tell you what to do. If not, call the manufacturer or dealer and he should be able to help you out.

3-5k for best long term performance depending on your drive and habits.
