Should the Devil Rays fire Joe Maddon?
Joe Maddon is in his second year managing the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Our hitting is awesome, but our rotation is marginal and our middle relief is downright pathetic. What do you all think... should Joe Maddon be fired? Who should he be replaced with?

I don't believe he should be fired. The Devil Rays offense is superb where they are at a point of backlog in their minor league system with Evan Longoria and Reid Brignac. The pitching should get better as the Devil Rays have a lot of talented pitchers in the pipeline where they can maybe boast 5 potential aces by 2010 - if they keep Kazmir around.
Jacob McGee, Wade Davis, Jeff Niemann, Mitch Talbot, Jason Hammel, Andrew Sonnanstine are just a few of the guys who are having a lot of success in the minors with Hammel and Sonnanstine being close to being called up to replace Seo and Fossum eventually.
I think the organization is doing the right thing and taking it slow because they know they can't win now and they know that in a year or two they will have the rotation that can compete with the Yankees and Red Sox.

Since the DRays are so young canning the manager is probably one of the dumbest things they could do. Baldelli is an old man on that team but would be a kid on any other team in the east. Maddon is one of the few people in that locker room that gives veteran perspective and unless the players hate him keeping the manager position stable would be smart. DRay ownership/management is stupid so look for him to be fired by the break, with no permanent replacement until after Crwaford, Kazmir, Upton and Young demand and get traded to teams with more stability.

The team is young and Devil Rays have never been in contention for anything but last place. Another manager at this point won't help them.

At this point I'm not sure if firing him will do any good. The organization's not doing well. They've been in the league long enough now to have made at least one run at the playoffs and that's not happened.
