Calling all young Poets. BEWARE of POETRY dot COM..... It's a SCAM.......?
Many of my Young friends here innocently uploaded their poems to that site.
Lots of Answerers here always refers New Young Poets toward that site.
Even I did so, until i found this.......
Poetry.com is a fraud publishing organization that features it's online writing contest. It literally accepts 100% of applicants as 'Semi-finalists' in their 'international poetry competition' and sends a letter to the poor victims. The letter is full of flattery saying that you are a wonderful poet and the 'sectional committee' or 'panel of judges' has decided your poetry is good enough to be published. They ask a 'modest' payment of $50 plus extra if you want your page on a page of it's own. Publishing only those who paid, 6000 poems per book at $50-$75 a poem with 60 books published a year is a lot of $$$$.

The last book of poetry I bought was Alexander Blok's dual edition of his collection "Избранное" - his poems up to 1917. I bought it last week and I'm still exploring it. The reason I bought it is because it's got the original verse which is important to feel, and although I don't speak Russian I can understand it quite well, Serbian being my mother tongue. I learnt that Blok may not be as attractive to an average reader as some other Russian poets, but that he has a deeper and more complex imagery than many. I read random poetry from the many poetry books I have every morning and every night - much in the same way that some people read the Bible. And I always learn a new thing or feel a different sensation.

I believe you're right.
I've seen some of the books which folks have paid a fortune to have their work in. There are multiple poems on a page. Some of the work is real crap.
Then, poets pay additional fees for personal info to be put in the book. The poet also provides names of local newspaper publications so the book can be promoted there.
Can you say profit?
It's not just poets who are victims of scams. This happens with some pet photo contests as well.
Bottom line--$.
I hope your message reaches some people, and they realize that anything that seems too good to be true--is too good to be true.

Wow, I didn't know that! I published a poem on that site a few years ago. They never asked me for any money though.
