Heaps, but not what you'd imagine as a typical island. They aren't the coconut types of islands, but very native australian. You can go to South Stradbroke Island. There is an eco resort there called Couran Cove. It's really fun. You can hire a bike and ride it to the surf beach, swim in the pools, do water sports such as wake boarding, skiing, saling. They have a professional running track with a built in timer to time your self and you can set a race pace on the track with the lights that they have. There is also a cheaper resort on the island which is great for day trips too called South Stradbroke Island resort. There is a little island which is totally deserted with nothing but trees on it and is right infront of the seaway (hence the name "wave break"). It's great for a picnic and as the tide is coming in, is a good snorkelling spot. North Stradbroke island which is a little closer to Brisbane has even more beautiful beaches (getting north, getting a little more tropical). Quite often dolphins whales and turtles are seen. There are beautiful fresh water lakes, great four-wheel driving and exploring. Heaps of resorts, lots of nature. Moreton Island is cool too with lots of similar stuff to North Straddie (as the locals call it), but is also further away from surfers paradise. If you want to go 30 minutes south of Surfers', there is an island 750 metres off the coast of Fingal called Cook Island. It is a great SCUBA diving place. Kirradive can take you there. Hope this helps

Morton Island is WONDERFUL - actually scooby doo 1 the movie was filmed there.
you take the boat out from Brisbane though - not far from the gold coast.
I would recommend this one, as you can feed the dolphins at night also.
Heaps of other activities - make sure you do the sand dunes.
go to http://www.tangalooma.com/ for more information. Well worth the trip...
