To copy the favorites folder to another computer you navigate to the favorites folder via this path C:\Documents and Settings\users name\Favorites user name would be the name of the account you want to transfer favorites from. You can either right click on the favorites folder and copy and paste it to the other pc via network connection or copy it to a floppy disk or cd. Or you can zip the folder up and email it to yourself and download it and unzip it to the new pc but make sure you add it to the same path C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Favorites

To copy Internet Explorer Favourites the manual way.

    Right click the start menu.

    Select explore.

When explorer opens the start menu folder will be highlighted

A couple of folders above it is the favourites folder just copy the contents to your laptop same location.

If you are using a different browser ask again stating which browser.

Use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" of Windows XP.

    Here it is:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb45707...

You need not read everything. Just see the screen-shots and you'll understand.

Also, as you mentioned that you want to transfer your Bookmarks (only), use "Transfer Files" option rather than the other two..

Use an online bookmarking tool that can import/export. See delicious help sites for more information.

Basically, you install delicious buttons on IE or Firefox on both machines and then import all your bookmarks/Favorites. Now they are stored online, and you can access them from either machine (or any other machine on the Internet).

Go into the documents and settings folder, look under your user name and copy the favorites to a flash drive or floppy, you can then transfer it to your laptop
