i have a new male cockatiel and it goes crazy when i even go near the cage what should i do?

its a new cockatiel about 8 to 9 months. it goes crazy when i try to even put food in its cage/ i know it needs time to warm up to me let alone train him. but what is the first step to getting him to calm down and let me come near the cage without him flapping all around the cage. he scares me because i dont want him to injure his wings or anything. i stay away, but its necessary to put food and water and also i heard they need human intraction for them to start liking you so what should i do?

It's new, that's the problem. Take time for him to adjust to his new settings. Give him about a week or two. And each day during this time, go by his cage, pull up a chair, and sit. Either read a book outloud, talk to him softly, or whatever. He may freak out at first, but should calm down once he realizes you are staying and you aren't there to hurt him. This will hopefully get him use to your presence.

it can help to talk to him or whistle , just a few notes. Then move to the cage and just ignore him until he calms down. Dont try to pet him or anything. Just calmly do the food and water and clean the cage.

He will soon settle down , and then you can start rubbing his chest and get him to perch on your hand.

He's learned how to make you leave him alone!!! Just take your time around him, he will learn that you aren't going away and will settle down. He's the one that has control of you. Good luck.
