Carol Burnett: offended or broke?

Exerpt from the Family Guy Newsletter:

Legendary comedian Carol Burnett didn’t think a Family Guy parody of one of the signature characters – charwoman the cleaning lady – from Burnett’s 1967-78 CBS variety show was funny. Burnett filed a lawsuit against in March claiming that she was disparaged in the “Peterotica” episode of The Family Guy when Peter Griffin comments that Carol Burnett works part-time as a janitor at a local adult bookstore. A character resembling Burnett’s Charwoman (complete with blue bonnet, mop and bucket) appears and tugs her ear (another signature Burnett move).

Fox released the following statement: "'Family Guy,' like the 'Carol Burnett Show,' is famous for its pop culture parodies and satirical jabs at celebrities. We are surprised that Ms. Burnett, who has made a career of spoofing others on television, would go so far as to sue 'Family Guy' for a simple bit of comedy."

My question: is she really offended or just hurting for a paycheck?

Man, I am sorry to hear that.

Carol Burnett was one of the funniest stage actors I have ever seen.

Her show was literally 'must see TV' for me

Carol Burnett was the first White woman I had ever seen that said "Yo!" That was way before it was popular.

My take on the situation is: Carol Burnett was wildly popular at one time. She was everywhere. On magazine covers, and a guess appearance by Carol on a TV show was sure to raise that program's ratings a bit.

Then one day it was over.

I've seen a couple of attempts to resurrect her old popularity.

One was a "reunion show" that was a shameless promotion for the 'Best of Carol Burnett' videos.

She was in a couple of Broadway plays that didn't go far.So other than Carol and her accountant, who knows?

both! I loved the stunts Lucy and Ethel were given into like Superman for little Ricky's get mutually, or the sweet production unit jobs they held. They were classics! Then there is the Carol Burnett instruct. at the same time as they did their stunts and couldn't help yet guffawing themselves, i might want to lose it. I loved Tim Conway and Harvey Korman doing the dentist scene and evidently there become "lengthy gone with the Wind!"

Since Carol Burnett has made millions in her career with her variety show, specials, movies and books...I'd say she was offended.

I'm sure if they would have used the character in any other setting than a porn theater she would have had no problem with it.

She wants the attention and the cash. Because now that she's not so popular she wants some more attention on her. And again now that she's not so popular(i.e not in many movies) she needs cash!
