DTV Blood Clot?

I had a dtv in my left leg back in october. I have since been on coumadin and starting Monday I am off it for 3 weeks until I get another D Dimer test. I have been experiencing pain in the leg today. My question is, if the clot is still in there, how is it safe to stop the blood thinners? I just don't understand this whole thing. What is keeping it from clotting up again, especially if part of the clot may still be in my leg? The doctor has not done a ultrasound of it since the day i was in the hospital back in October. Does anyone know how this process works?

First off, contact your physician. No one here knows your medical records and there might be something there that can better explain the situation.

You should get additional testing, there in no other way to double check your condition without them.

The danger of stopping your Warfarin therapy prior to scheduled stoppage is that you might develop a clot that could become an embolous, which needless to say, is life threating. You should definately contact your physician.

Warfarin works by works by inhibiting the clotting process via inhibiting the active forms of vitamin K that contribute to the process. It also affects other proteins such as C,S, Z involved in blood clotting.

Contact your physician about your concerns.

See that can be tricky. My farther had a blood clot. The doc. told him the same I guess, the blood was getting to thin. As u know if your blood gets to thin a blood vessel can pop resulting into a stroke. Its best to take a small aspirin. If the doc. told u to stop it was for a reason. You may have a small clot in your leg forming as we speak. When my farther stop his. After that he had 4 more clots. So he went out of town and he got this thing in his neck, they don't do surgery. They place it in there its called a filter. Also he takes a aspirin every other day. He has no problems ever and I'm happy for my daddy.I hope this helps in some way. Take a small aspirin only today and see how that does also I'm a Nurse Prac.Hope this helps

Blood checks aren't to any extent further diagnostic for DVT. you elect an ultrasound of your leg. this may visualize any clots. If there is concern for clots contained in the pelvis then a CT experiment with intravenous assessment is critical.

Fire that doctor! Please be tested for clotting disorders. Chances of reclotting are about 3xs as high being taken off Coumadin if you have a disorder causing this DVT.

I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome and am on it for life with a target INR over 3. and still clot.

I would check for certain signs of a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Is the leg warm? Do you have a measruing tape? Tape the circumference of each calf. If there is a drastic difference in the two? If so, GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR!!!

    Hope this helps!

Don't stop taking the blood thinner (Coumadin). If I were you i'd call my doctor and alert him/ her of the onset pain that you are experiencing.
