Why would you attack your friends about this? They didn't steal your shoes! Some jerk did. Why would you expect your friends to reimburse you? Some understanding friend you are.

If these shoes were so special and valuable you should have locked them up in your car, not left them lying around. They're SHOES for crying out loud. Get over it. And look - you've seriously damaged your relationship with your friends over what? An inanimate pair of shoes that can be replaced. What do you value more? Your shoes? Or your friends? Can shoes cry over you? Will shoes come to your funeral when you die? If you are laid up in the hospital, will your shoes come visit you? (Well maybe your wife could bring them in and prop them by your bed so they could smile at you all day long.)

Sophia Loren once recounted how she lost some very, very expensive jewelry because thieves stole it from the hotel safe. Included in the expensive pieces were pieces which were not so expensive, but which were of sentimental value and could never be replaced. A friend of hers said, "Never cry over anything that can't cry over you." I think that's pretty good advice. And what she lost makes $120 look like penny change!

Get over it and move on. Think of it as a learning. Hopefully you have learned not to value the wrong things; the inanimate status symbols. Be thankful the only thing you lost were your shoes. There are much worse things in life you can lose: your wife, your children, your pets, your house, a fine job or even your health!

You should ask you friend who was at the party...more than likely it was someone attending the party who took the boots. If not, it is your friends fault and should have reimbursed you for your losses. They should not be your friends if they will not reimburse you for their own stupidity. They should have allowed the guests to place shoes inside the house at the entrance.

Your friend should have homeowner's insurance - though there is usually a deductible it might cover some of the cost to replace your boots. Your loss might be covered at 100% because it was "theft" - however, the insurance company usually deducts a percentage for how used your boots were.

I would ask your friend for the name of his/her insurance agent. They can get angry for asking for the name of their insurance agent or they can see you in small claims court!

You could also file a claim through your insurance company and they would counter file on your friend's insurance company. Hey - it's not personal - you just want your shoes!
