Here is how to involve the FDA:

How to Report a Reaction to a Pet Food

Call the FDA consumer complaint coordinator for your geographic area. To find your coordinator, visit: www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html. Try to have the following information available before calling:

Brand name, lot numbers, and UPC code for the pet food fed to your dog or cat when it was ill. A lot number is typically stamped on the bag/pouch or on the can lid. Lot numbers usually consist of a series of letters and numbers.

If your pet received treatment by a veterinarian, his/her name, address, and telephone number

    Date illness first noticed

    Any veterinary reports available.

Sure sorry to hear you lost your best friend pet dog. You spent alot of money trying to help. Check out my source below for ways to recover your money.

You asked if anything will be done to stop this hazard to the life and health of our pets. Well, its hard to say but some things look positive. The USA governement is now involved more than before. One Senator Durbin has made this a priority cause also. Some importers will be more careful now that their bottom line may take a hit. Chinese exporters and government are also concerned. They don't want to lose the multi-Billion dollar food export biz.

Other positive things are in my source below but one thing that may help is more pet owners learning about what is really in pet food and what options they have.

You mentioned autopsy. The few I've read of all speak of kidney failure in the pets that died from this recalled contaminated food. That may be true of your beloved dog also.

I became concerned when the wet food recal occurred. No problem, threw out all wet food, even though it didn;t match the serial numbers. I would just do dry food. Then the other day came the dry food recall. Who knows how far this will go. I threw out all treats and snacks, in addition to the dry food. I made my own. It is pretty easy and not too expensive. In fact an old country vet used to have us feed this to any pet who was sick. I adapted it for cat food.. Additionally, I am trying to come up with an equivallient for dry food that is homemade. Dogs: Equal amounts of ground beef( beef, chicken, sauteed in water and drained) and brown rice, both cooked. Add in EVOO. For cats : Equal amounts of Tuna and brown rice w/ EVOO/ Squish into canned type food. Need to look into adding veggies. Thinking about Baby Food.

First I am very sorry about your dog. We had several animals in our clinic ill and that died.

Unfortunately, most of the madness was caused by greed and that will NEVER stop. The problem is these low quality pet food companies buy the cheapest ingredient sources they can. The cheap wheat gluten in this instance wasn't tainted by accident rather the toxin was added to sway results that made the protein content look higher. So the cheap food is actually really worse that we all thought.

Sad but many animals suffer the financial constraints of the owners who either could afford to feed them better or were uneducated about pet foods. Go here to look and find the best foods for pets. Hopefully, you will be able to find room in your heart for another angel soon. www.naturapet.com
