The Museum is located at 81 St along Central Park West. The #2 is a better option. Once you get on the train, you can:

    (1) Take it to 96 St, walk over to Central Park West, and walk down to 81 St. No transfer at all there, and a nice walk on a nice day.

    (2) Take it to 96 St, transfer to a South Ferry-bound #1. Take it two stops to 79 St, and walk to Central Park West and then up to 81 St.

Welcome to New York, and enjoy the Museum!! Definitely a great choice.
