Turtles are like every other vertebrate. Reproductive products are carried in the lower abdomen until ready to be introduced to the outside world. In the case of a turtle, this will be in the form of soft-shelled eggs about the size of the turtle's head that are supposed to be laid in a nest on land. Eggs don't normally take up enough volume to make a visible difference in the bulge of the shell. If the turtle lays an egg in the water the egg dies within hours - you need to take it out and make a nest for it.

Look up your specific species of turtle. Some species of turtle/tortoise have differences in the plastron (bottom shell).
