Do you think Vivekananda was really great?

In my opinion, He was glorified by the countless Bengalis in the media right now. He was not a badman, but not so great as being portrayed.

Update:

In a way, this is my personal grievance against a particular class of people. They are dominating media and props up everything connected with them.

I never studied Vivenkananda and never felt any loss in my life. My Hindu values have not eroded and no one branded me anti-social.

Now for the achievement of swamiji. From my studies, what I learned is that

1> He gave some speech in Chicago for which no one other than Media in India remembers him for.

2> He started ramakrishan mutt which is in complete shambles now.

3> Kolkata is ruled by Marxists who completely opposes all religion.

4> He died so early because of his own excesses. A person should not be judged by sparkles of brilliance, but his continued long term contribution. ANd one who does excesses on his body is some kind of addict in my view.

As for me going above him, this is irrelevant statement in my view. What I want is rational analysis, not some emotional boasts trying to deride me.

While this is true that Bengal, which gave us Vivekananda, Paramhansa, Tagore, Aurobindo, Subhash Bose, Yogananda, Lahiri Mahasya, Bimal Mitra etc etc.

That Bengal has degraded so much that Communists who have been routed all over the world... are still ruling there

But behaviour of some Bengalis....does not degrade such great souls...who became pillars of hinduism.

Please read Vivekananda's books.... My spiritual journey started after reading his book Raja Yoga..

You should refrain from commenting on great souls... if you are a real hindu

Ur question seems to stem out of ur personal feelings about Bengalis. Look @ it in this way, Swami Vivekananda was interested in reviving Hinduism not Bengal. He gave a battered religion lots of hope and spirit at a time when it was badly needed n every Hindu shud be thankful for that.

I have been reading Vivekananda speeches & Books since childhood & admiring him for his thoughts.

To this day I never felt that he was a Bengali , & so, different from me in any way. ( I am not a Bengali). He is our own.

He may not be THE greatest, but certainly one among the greatest.

Have u ever read about his works or atlest his biography. One intelligent man can accomplish a great thing, which is never possible even if the world supplies billlions of fools.

Read his works and then think.

I think he is the greatest man even born.

He nailed the truth. No one could say it better than Vivekananada. I heard of greatest scholars, warriors, politicians, heroes. No one is so sure and right at the same time as Vivekananda, except Buddha.

without the slightest of the doubt he was a great man. his simplicity was truly remarkable. he was a true indian in the sense that he was the pioneer who proclaimed that indian cultures were the best all over the world. his address in chicago portrayed india as a marvellous country.

I have no objection for you to have such opinion.

To gain credibility you should be above him in all traits. Are you sure?
