It depends on the age group - older kids (5th & up are more interested in fine details - colored pencils fine markers, etc.)

But, a fun project with little ones with crayons is to have them color on sandpaper and then flip the sandpaper over and have an adult iron it onto another piece of paper. Older kids like to make monoprints by coloring a piece of paper really hard with a crayon and then turning it over and using it like carbon paper by writing on the back - when they press with a pencil it leaves a rainbow mark on the paper from the crayon.

Another fun project with crayons for older kids is scratch art - have them color a piece of paper with crayons - they have to color really hard so you can't see any white - then paint it black with tempera or acrylic paint (you have to add a little bit of dish soap to the paint so that it will stick to the waxy crayon) but when it dries you can use something sharp like a toothpick and carve back throught the black to paint to make rainbow drawings - 4th & 5th graders love this.

    Good luck!

Fairly large jar lids for them to draw circles around. They are easier to use than a compass and it gives the kids nice round circles.

Oh yeah. if they have old shirts to put on as smocks it will save their better clothes.

Scrap cloth, poster paints or water colour(cheap and washable) Don't use actual serious artist colours because some of them are toxic.

  • Wax paper to protect surfaces, a glue stick, (less messy than regular glue), glitter, safety scissors, (to cut out their "art work") yarn, for hair, fur, tails, etc. and some colored construction paper.

candle... haha, to melt the crayons... soft/ melted crayons give nice texture when it dries... you can also combine colors... hihi

ruler!!! ahaha... to scrape off thick marks in your artwork.. this gives a smooth, flat texture..., also makes it neat and clean...
