I need a cortisone shot in my ankle, but have no insurance?
I'm wondering where the best places to get reduced cost healthcare for a cortisone shot are. Can I go to a regular clinic and just pay a bill, are there walk-in clinics that will give me the shot? Can I go to the emergency room and get it?
I've already had iontophoresis, and it didn't work. I need to reduce the pain until the end of the summer when i am able to have surgery. i realize that cortisone is only a temporary fix, but don't have any other option right now. It's swollen and hurts.

You generally want an orthopedic surgeon doing this type of procedure. An ER doc would most likely give you an oral medication and tell you to follow up with a surgeon.
If you have a physician, discuss with him/her, an iontophoresis patch by EMPI. It's a patch that holds ionized medication (usually dexamethazone @ 4mg/mL, which is similar to coritsone). You pull a tab to release the use of a small battery which delivers the drug through the skin transdermally by using the charge from the battery to push it through the skin. I think the cost is $60 for a box of 10, but then you would need a jar of the medication as well. If your physician agrees, you can contact EMPI for the patches and order the dexamethozone from your pharmacist.
It should give you similar results as a cortisone injection (depending on how deep in the ankle you need to go)...but you need to see a doctor to determine if this is even appropriate.
