Doesn't it seem like feminists should be AGAINST equal pay in grand slam tournaments?
I feel that equal pay in slams is contrary to gender equality. It perpetuates the myth that gender equality is only about rewarding women more in spite of their lesser abilities and talents. Women in tennis should have fought for equal pay AND equal conditions of play. They should have fought for a first week of best-of-three sets for both men and women, and a second week of best-of-five sets for both men and women. That way nobody can say that women are being rewarded in spite of their poor endurance (a total myth), and it would put an end to the argument that women are being paid less in spite of less effort (which is true). Doesn't it seem like fighting only for equal pay perpetuate the idea that women are being rewarded equally because they complain about their pay, not because they are willing to make the same effort?

If women had to play the same number of sets as the men I think that yes they should absolutely be paid the same amount as men. Frankly I know women are supposed to be the weaker gender, I dont' see why they can't play the same number of sets as the men. Men are required to play ATLEAST 3 sets to win, women can win in two sets. Change it. I think this will just push women atheletes to condition more and be in better shape. That would be a good thing for womens tennis, not a bad thing.

I think when it comes to men and women, not only in tennis, you have to see that these are two very different creatures. If you standarize the sets (say in each tournament women should also play best of five), it would be too hard for them.
True, that women in some cases are not stonger than men, but there is a reason why women are complaining. Because 3 sets for them equals 5 sets for men. It's hard to see it when someone's not open-minded, but it's the truth. You can;t say that they got the equal pay just because their complaint. I;m sure the tennis comitee have considered it for quite some time, and it's reasonable for them to give equal prize money.
What we all have to underline is that, no matter what, men and women are different.

i think maybe it is a bit unfair cos guys sweat it out over 5 setters whereas the girls play just 3 setters.i agree that both men and women gotta train, practice and do other things in the same proportion but they are playing less sets.and i am saying this despite being a girl.
but in the other tournaments where both guys and girls play 3 sets they gotta have equal prize money(like indian wells, dubai open)
i dont like ur idea of 3 set matches for the first week and 5 for the second.i think it should remain 5 for the men at grand slams.as for women i think it would be very very interesting to see them playing best of 5 sets.

I'm a man but I believe it's just right women get equal pay.
Is there a statistics or survey that shows there are less audience or spectators in women's matches than men? If there's one, then women should get less pay
It's not a "total myth" that women have poor endurance. It's a FACT. Look at women's physique. Read a book. Ask a doctor or a scientist. You'll get your enlightenment. Women have smaller body, smaller body organs, etc.
