Do pit bull owners have any advice about raising a 7 week old puppy?

I might be getting a pitt puppy- I haven't really decided. I'm trying to get info on raising them. I'll be at work for most of the day but I will be able to come home to let the puppy out of the crate. I'm assuming I only need to crate train for a few months (I've never crate trained before so I don't know). I'd appreciate useful advice. Thanks!

i'm sorry but if you're going to be at home most of the day i pitt puppy is not for you. A pitt needs extra training and availability. a puppy should not be left alone in a crate for more than four hours at a time.

puppies in general need every opportunity possible to relieve themselves and eat. i puppy should not be made to scarf it's food down just because you need to hurry back to work. Crate training is an asset as no dog likes to mess where it sleeps but how long you'll need it depends on the puppy.

If you are set on getting a puppy i would also get some sort of extendable gate or a play pen. putting a dog in a play pen and setting newspaper or wee wee pads will allow it some freedom without chewing up and destroying your house. this will only work for so long before your puppy is able to simply jump out so i would suggest a run in the backyard or a garage.

on average a puppy that young will relieve himself 5-6 times a day and because puppies that young are still growing they should have the opportunity to have water all day long and taken away after around 7pm.

also you should check to make sure that you don't have any laws that prohibit you from buying a pitt. Because of it's bad reputation and the fact that most are trained by irresponsible owners it's not uncommon for certain places to refuse to let you have one in your area. this goes for home owners too not just apartment dwellers.

Pit bulls are overbred and most of them are not ideal dogs. They also vary greatly, living up to no real standard. Some pit bulls are great, but some are totally spastic. You should get a pup between 8-10 weeks, not 7. Most importantly, if you're not home a lot, do NOT get a young puppy. Go find a dog that is 6 months or older, so you can bypass some of the puppy stage. You cannot housebreak a young dog while you're at work all day, go for an adult, then you also know what you're getting. A little puppy is cute, but you'll never know how its going to turn out as far as its genetics and personality. You can evaluate an adult better and sometimes get a dog thats already housebroken. crate train, and do obedience class, but first do internet research about pit bulls.

Crate training is a good idea- I wouldn't leave a puppy in a crate longer than 4 hours at a time though. When you are not directly watching the puppy, he should be in the crate. Immediately after taking him out of the crate, put him out to potty. Most dogs will not mess in their own crate! He will need lots of play time and exercise when you are home. Also, Pits are strong willed and require lots of training. Plan on taking him to an obedience class, and sticking to it. If you do get a pit, keep in mind that they do not generally get along well with other dogs, so you will not be able to take him to a dog park, or ever let him off leash. Alot of home owners insurances do not cover you if you have a pit bull. People are going to judge you, so make sure you are a model pit owner, and have a REALLY well behaved dog.

Its centered on worry of the unknown anybody who has smarts approximately any breed of puppy is aware of that aggression is centered upon genetics, coaching and the socialization of the puppy with different humans, pets, and do not forget that temperment in breeds do enable for much less or extra agression within the bloodline so decide upon a puppy cautiously through study at the breed. And for individuals who consider its the pitbull or bully breeds good the reality isn't even near centered upon 15 yr research CDC has compiled considerable information on puppy assaults in numbers and right here they're as follows German shepherds Cocker spaniels Rottweilers Golden retrievers People could in no way say the Lab or retriver and they're each within the Top six and thats the truth. And APBTs are probably the most adorned carrier puppy in historical past in any side of the U.S. miltary and they're a few probably the most complicated healing puppies one would have in cure however the media cant promote the 1000's of believe well studies they are able to most effective push the 7-nine unhealthy one a yr.And pitbulls account for one million-two deaths a 12 months national out of the 39 that arise and thats a reality ........And they're probably the most high-quality household puppies you'll possess however YOU MUST get one from first-class bloodlines this implies a household with out combating historical past a minimum of four generations eliminated or extra. Crate training is the way to go but don't leave in to long

socialize with other people and animals while a puppy.

leash training is important also (training classes would be a great ideal)

Be firm from the start to always let him/her know you are boss

Never hit when correcting .....a firm no (tone of your voice )will do

Needs lots of exercise as it grows

Keep plenty of toys around or he/she will chew your stuff

Pit bulls need a lot of your time, they are sweet wonderful dogs but powerful(strong)

Make sure this is the type dog for you GL

it sounds like a nice adult dog would be ideal for you, try visiting your local shelter they have plenty of good dogs of all breeds including american pit bull terriers as a reference they are high energy and arent good left alone for long hours (mine turns into destructo dog when left alone for too many hours)

    remember boredom=destruction
