Computer lap top - My space bar is not working (if I hit it hard I can make a space) How can one fix this ?

I do not want to incurr a lot of costs and I need the lap top for my home business.( can't ship it back to the manufacturer- I need it) It is only 1 1/2 years old and either there is something under the key or it has already worn out somewhat.

most likely you have gotten grime and gunk under the key. Simply pop the key up using a butterknife (or any flat object) and then clean the area under the key.

the key will just pop up and after you clean it; will snap back in place.

    OPTION 2

Take it to a service tech in your area. They will be able to fix your key in 5 minutes and charge you your first born son to do it.

To be honest with you, without actually being able to work with it/on it, all I can do is speculate. However,

    1. It's possible that the contact is worn down. This could be either the switch on the board that transmits the signal, or the key itself.

    2. It's possible that something got under the key (lint, dust, crumbs, etc...), and is preventing contact from being made.

    3. If you spilled something on the keyboard, it's possible that it simply gummed-up the works.

For any of those, you'd need someone that knows how to work on a laptop, since it generally requires pulling the thing apart. It's not like a PC keyboard, where you can just pull the key off and get to the problem. Most cities have locally-owned computer repair shops, or you can go to one of the big-box stores (Best Buy, Cirtcuit City, CompUSA, etc...) where they have their own techs (I'd recommend an independently run shop over one of those myself).

This is becoming such a common problem, spilling liquid over keyboards. with a pc, you can simply buy a new keyboad, with a laptop, unless it can be dried and hasnt died already you may be lucky. Let this be a valuable lesson to you, computers do not mix with food or drink and I can't understand why internet cafes don't recognise that fact. Certainly in all the computer suites I teach in, I would never allow food and drink even in the same room, let alone near a computer.

It could be a number of things, try to slide a thin yet hard object underneath the key and lift it up. Try to pop the key off - clean underneath it and then put the key back.

If it doesn't work after that, then yes the key may have gone bad in a sense.

Take the key its self off and make sure that you didnt damage anything. No plastic is broken and that there is still a metal bar. If one of these is wrong take it to a local shop. If that fails ask a friend who is good with computers..

Try cleaning it using a low strength blower. Some times it could solve the problem.
