Rover 75 SE or Chrysler pt Cruiser?
I am thinking of getting a new car, well a used one. I am thinking of a Chrysler PT Cruiser or a Rover 75 SE 1.8. There isnt a lot of difference in the insurance for both of them. Does anyone have any opinions of either car. I have been driving for a couple of years and my old reliable megane is about to go to car heaven. I do about 5k miles a year - not much really.I am looking for a car that will do me for a good 4-5 years.
Im just looking a bit of advice as I am clueless about cars and i am jst purely going on the fact I like the look of them both and enjoyed test driving them!

My Uncle has just traded his PT for a very nice Rover 75 2.0 V6 auto..............Sheer class....fantastic drive, feels VERY safe and secure....you sort of know that if anything happens you will come off best...never felt like that in the PT.
I would advise the rover and don't worry about servicing or parts, people like Rimmer Bros in Lincoln stock ALL Rover/MG parts.

The Rover is a large car and if you get a well maintained one it will last for some years and is a very comfy drive. 75 has a fine pedigree and is refined, respectable, composed and comfortable
The PT Cruiser is a totally different beast despite Chrysler's claims that road noise has been reduced by 2-5 decibels, excessive wind and road noise still makes long trips in this retro cruiser tiring.
Go for the Rover but ensure it has a full service history.

Not really, it depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle. Personally, I'd like to have one. Even though I can be classed as an old person, I'm in my mid 50's, it would still be fun to get one and modify it to my taste. By the way the Last PT rolls off the line this summer. Chrysler hasn't made the official announcement yet but they're not the biggest seller from Mopar.

Would go for a 75, bits for them are cheap and easy to come by, things like brake pads, air and oil filters will be much cheaper and they are a relatively new design of car (as in the suspension and chassis) the ride and refinement are better.
Plus, those chryslers are god awful, almost no-one wants one so selling it on later will be harder where as every pensioner will be beating his mates with their zimmer frame to get to it when you eventually sell it.
Good luck either way, get one with a full service history on and if you are buying it from a dealer, get them to aggree what the warranty involves before you buy it and read all the small print.
A mate of mine just bought an audi and paid an extra 500 pounds for a warranty on it. Turns out this warrranty would pay out only upto 500 pounds of parts and labour and if the cam belt snapped and ruined the head he would only get the price of the belt, about 7 pounds...
take it easy

I know it is a bit older than what you wanted but,I would go for a v reg Rover 620 however, make sure it has the Honda engine. They are a luxury car and can be picked up in very good condition for about £1500

Go for the Rover every time out of them two but the MG ZT version of the 75 will sell on better and looks better.
good luck
ps. dont believe the anti British car ars*holes I once made the mistake of buying German rubbish!! Driven MG ever since and all 3 of them been great!!

Avoid K series 1.8 or v6, technically brilliant but garages are not up to fixing them when the head gasket blows. They need a mod to the thermostat system. See the unofficial Austin Rover site. Mind you garages aren't much good at fixing anything else either.

My personal opinion is that no one under the age of 50 should drive a PT Cruiser. I'm sorry...but they are one of the more hideous vehicles out there. And I've had the unpleasant experience of driving one from Cleveland to Toledo and back. I HATED it! I have no experience or knowledge of the other ato give a true comparison.

I dont know about the chrysler but last year I told my mate who is a mechanic that I realy fancied a rover 75. He told me not to as the car is too heavy for the engines they put in them.Hope ive been a help.

me personally i would pick the rover because my aunt has a pt cruiser and she has had it for 2 years and something was wrong with the engine
