Itching from Lortab?
Ok, i have a kidney stone and my doctor has put me on hydrocodone (lortab) for the pain. I know that a lot of pain pills can cause you to be itchy, thats not my question....my question is why? What is it in these type of pain pills that cause the itching??

Any opiate-based medication can cause itchiness. If it is not severe or accompanied by swelling, hives or other signs of an allergic reaction, try taking a Benadryl (or any other histamine blocker: Claritin, Chlortrimeton) to ease your symptoms. The reason this happens is because the opiate receptors in your body sometimes have a histamine-like reaction to the opiates, hence the itching. Just be careful, Benadryl can cause drowsiness. If it is really bothersome, another opiate may not cause the itching; ask your doctor if he is willing to change it for you.

Not sure what is IN them to make the itching but my husband is also on Lortab for pain and it makes him itch as wel. He IS allergic to Hydrocodone so if Lortab has this in it, that is the reason.

I had a friend who also itched from taking Lortabs after a surgery. He told his doctor this and they switched him to Percocets. Hope this helps!

ya when using that much you can expect to itch alot thats normal. Your friend will more than likely be okay with that dosage but should worry about liver damage with all that acetaminophen.

Absolutely. OPiates release histamines that are causing this. You can stop it by taking some benadryl.

This is common like you said, but it is the codeine in it. I have been on pain pills for years and in the beginning it was miserable but it let me know it was working and in my system, so look at it as a good thing. Your body is responding normally to the codeine.
