I am 63 and have a new tooth growing !?

Honestly .The first time I noticed it was only a corner and my dentist was very dismissive saying it was a bit of root left from a previous extraction, but since then it has grown more and now the middle section(it's a double) has come through. Are there any dentists out there who can tell me if this is common? Also is it likely to grow fully and will it be healthy.?Thank you

Its very rare, but there are cases where people have a third set of teeth! Now, not every tooth may have a third backup, but it sounds like in your case, this particular tooth did. You should consult with another dentist, and request x-rays. This way, you'll know for sure. Good luck and don't sweat it.

my dad had that and was furious because he paid for a crown that was pushed out by the new tooth!!!he was annoyed that the dentist had put a crown on a baby tooth but as we said ...you dont expect to have a baby tooth when your in your 60's.anyway it has carried on growing and is a healthy tooth now.

it is normal to have a new tooth after 60 years. my grandmother had a new tooth when she turned 85. but iam not sure if it would be a healthy one.

Third dentitions are not common, but they are not unusual.

I believe one of the King Louis of France had it happen (14 or 15?).
