Internet Explorer won't let me download ANYTHING?
i know that this is exactly like someone else's question, but he didn't get an answer and I NEED ONE.
a few weeks ago, i updated my internet explorer and ever since i haven't been able to download ANY files off of the internet.
example 1) being an avid anime fan, i download episodes that have not been released in the US. NOT ANYMORE!! now i can't open the files from the internet so that they can be downloaded on bittorrent.
some may think that karma, but the next example is innocent.
while playing the sims 2 my computer kept messing up, so i decided to download a driver update. HOWEVER my internet explorer will not even let me download an update from intel!
and to make things worse, the only thing that i found related to the topic on microsofts not-so-wonderful support site were instructions to disable my phishing filter, which i did and it didnt work.
please help me. i have a long summer break ahead and i DO NOT wish to be without my sims and my anime. thnx.
i tried all of these (except unistalling internet explorer) and NONE of them worked. i can't download firefox, i can't download ANYTHING! and now i can't even log into my yahoo! account from my laptop (i'm on the desktop right now), even when my internet connection is 'excellent'. why is my computer doing this? i'm running a virus scan now (with defender pro) but it hasn't found anything, nor has it ever. please help!
okay, i finally downloaded firefox by downloading the setup to the home computer first, then accessing it through the network. now i can download stuff, but whenever i try to access my email account firefox displays a message that says "Firefox can't connect securely to view.adtmt.com because the SSL protocol has been disabled. so now what do i need to do?

First of all, don't try to uninstall Internet Explorer as some people have suggested!
This might work for certain software applications, but uninstalling IE only removes the shortcuts to it, and doesn't actually uninstall anything. I had a different problem with my IE some months ago, and tried to do the uninstall, leaving me to spend a day trying to fix everything back, as it had even removed things like my Notepad and Paint, quite useful windows applications. And the worst part was that the installer to reinstall IE didn't work, because it said there is a higher version of IE installed. Even tweaking the registry didn't help.
I'm sure you are also not looking to try out a different browser, as you are familiar with IE, and it's just something that has corrupted it that you would want to fix, but yeah for the time being you can try Firefox, while you are working out how your IE can be fixed.
You are not mentioning which version of IE you are using, but I assume IE6, as searching in forums other people who reported this problem were using IE6 and not IE7.
The first thing to do if you encounter any browser problem is to delete all the cookies, and temporary internet files. If you haven't done so, please go to Tools - Internet Options and click on Delete cookies, and then on Delete files.
This usually solves 90% of all browser problems!
Also uninstall any toolbar that you might have added on in the past, like Yahoo! Toolbar and Google Toolbar. You can add them back again when your browser is working again. In my case my problem was caused by an incompatibility with the IE update and an outdated version of Yahoo! toolbar.
Run anti-spyware software like Lavasoft AdAware, and make sure that you are cleared from any spyware.
I hope the above helps and do keep us posted which solution finally helped okay?

Could be a bunch of things. Let's try these.
Stop by www.filehippo.com and download, install and update these programs.
Spybot, Adaware, AVG AntiSpyware and CCleaner.
Run each program one at a time and delete what it finds.
When all that's done, do a disk defrag and restart.
Go by microsoft and update your windows.
Go by www.pandasoftware.com and run a FREE scan.
If anything is left, it should find it.
If there is anything left, stop by www.geekstogo.com and post there. They have a good malware section and instructions that will help, if all the above didn't work.
You also might want to check out firefox and use that instead of Explorer. IE only has to be used for windows updates.
Good luck

Since the browser that you have will not allow you download anything, it's a problem.
I'd suggest that you uninstall IE, because that'll roll it back to the the earlier version which you can then use to download an alternative browser like Mozilla Firefox or Opera or Netscape Navigator and maintain them as failsafes for such an other event.
Since your IE doesn't allow any downloads from the browser, there isn't any sense in my asking you to download and use Firefox or anything else, is there? Because, the simple question is - how can you do that?
All the best.

Well, this might be because of your security settings. But the best thing you can do is to uninstall the internet explorer, get your windows XP cd and install internet explorer from the cd. if you're not using windows XP or you don't have the cd, i can't help you much. I'm sorry. But you could download it via another computer, transfer it to your com then install it.(preferably mozilla firefox is better than internet explorer.)(sometimes its just better not to keep your com up-to-date.)

Your discription of the problem is somewhat vague, however heres something to try and may prove fruitful
In internet explorer, goto
Tools
Internet Options
Security
Now each one of those pictures select and hit default, all 4 of them
Next goto privacy and hit default. Hit apply ok, and now try downloading something.
If this continues not to work, Go back into properties and uncheck the popup blocker. Now go and try and download someting again. If it works this time, then theres something weird in your popup blocker properties, which we can fix, if we hit the bridge.
Hope that helps,
Jason

You should use Mozilla Firefox, it is the best browser. You can download it for free here http://gisgt.com/sw/eng/browser-3/mozilla-firefox-...
Before I was using Google Chrome but now with Mozilla Firefox is much better.
