I have a Dell computer that is 1 yr old. It won't play audio cd's, but will play dvd's. Any reason why?

I have already installed all updates pertinent to this. It is a Dell Dimension E310

    Hi Bunny...

I need a bit more info, please...

Will the CD spin, and the drive access the CD, at least? Is it that there is no sound when you listen to CDs, as opposed to DVDs? Please give as many details as you can, so that I may assist you successfully. Thanks! :o)

Because it's likely not a CD/DVD ROM, just a DVD Player. When you ordered it, what exactly did you order, because there are options, like : CD/DVD ROM ; CD- Burner ; DVD Player only , etc. Check and see what you ordered. If Dell screwed up and sent the wrong options, they will need to send you the right thing, and you can ship the DVD player back in the same box. I know, because they sent me a defective "samsung" CD/DVD ROM, and they sent a Sony one to replace it.
