Does anyone have any ideas for songs for a tap dance class?
I teach dance and I am teaching a group of girls ages 14-19. I would like to have some music for them to tap to that isn't all swing and jazz. Does anyone know any modern music that we could use to warm up to?

Anything from "Happy Feet" especially Boogie Wonderland
I also saw someone tap to a reggae song by Doug E Fresh called "freak" that looked original

Musicals like Hairspray, Grease, Footloose, Ragtime, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Rent, and many others are great for dancing.
Christina Aguilera, Boy Likes Girl, Shiny Toy Guns, etc. are good for dancing (some songs) and are played often on the radio, so the teens can identify with these songs.
You probably wouldn't enjoy NSYNC or Backstreet Boys, but those are actually good songs to dance to.
Some songs that aren't jazz and swing (it does get annoying to only dance to that) are:
What I like About You
On Broadway
Footloose
All That Jazz
I Enjoy Being A Girl
Shout!
Hot, Hot, Hot
Greased Lightning
You're the One that I Want
I'm Just a Girl
It's Raining Men
I'm So Excited
Groove is in the Heart
Walkin' On Sunshine
Walk Like an Egyptian
Love Shack
Born to Entertain

musicals are a great inspiration; they all have a tappy beat and its even better when they kids dancing know the music!
