Isolated Calf Muscle Pain - How Long can a Strain Last?

In February I began to have pain in my calf muscle and I had just started taking birth control and I thought it was a blood clot - well I had an ultrasound done and that was not the case - it came back clear. The pain has continued on and off - I wear heels at work and had to run up and down steps (14) at least ten times a day and then I would go to the gym and work my legs (definately overworked it). Since then have had three weeks of no running up and down the stairs and have stopped working out. I I went back to my doctor and he felt my leg announced there was no blood clot (since I needed reassurance) and had an MRI done about two weeks ago and there was no torn muscle, but he said I strained it.

Update:

I just returned from the beach - five days of walking on the sand and all over Wilmington, NC and driving ten hours. In the last four days I would say I have had little to no sleep (gotta love the chronic insomia), have been packing to move, helping mom left and move things for a garage sale and went out in heels on Saturday (which I regretted in the first hour). The pain seems to have isolated its self to the corner of my muscle, where the muscles curves, a very dull ache. It is aching again and and then I get sharp twinges down the muscle and the back of my knee is now starting to ache. Has anyone else had a strain longer than four months - I figure it cannot heal because I keep overusing it. Any suggestions or comments? My doctor suggested that I might get some physical therapy done.

Update 2:

Did the physical therapy help you any?

it very well could be a strain, they can last for months of a tendon or ligament was stretched, but b/c you mentioned birth control, id have your doc test for deep vein thrombosis as well

Here is a solution that will give you some immediate relief, but you need to improve your diet to completely fix the problem. I suggest you go to this web site and order: Magnesium Glycinate. This is a highly digestible form of magnesium along with several other ingredients that will go to work on that muscle issue immediately. I would also suggest you do the following: Order Betaine HCL + an activator, a digestive enzyme, and a calcium complex from this company. I suggest you start taking 2 Betaine HCL and 1 activator after each meal. One digestive enzyme with each meal. 4 calcium complex and 4 magnesium glycinate in the morning and at night. Calcium and magnesium are absorbed in the jejunum and these two minerals compete for absorption. The winner is determined by the body's needs. This action only occurs if the stomach is acidic. Stay completely away from that garbage antacids because this will keep calcium and magnesium from being absorbed. So called acid in digestion is from LACTIC acid produced by rotting food, not stomach acid as doctors, pharmacists, and drug companies would have you believe. This solution should give you better relief than running to your doctor for more meds that will most likely do you more harm than good. good luck to you

I can't believe I'm reading your calf problem. It sounds very similar to mine! I started with calf pain & went to my Family Doctor. She sent for the following: Duplex Venous Doppler to check for blood clot, MRI, EMG/Nerve Conduction Study & checked my Muscle Enzyme through bloodwork all within a 5 month period. All came back normal. It also is aggravated by exercise & wearing heels. I'm still at a loss & was sent for Physical Therapy.
