Yes there are retirees in Nicaragua, mainly in the city of Granada and San Juan del Sur, a smaller number in Managua. The cost of living here is very very low, quality of life is average. In Nicaragua you will find almost everything you find in the U.S. and Europe. The movies that premiere elsewhere are usually premiered here a week or two after. English is co-official here and mandatory in school but Spanish still is the main language in its Nicaraguan dialect. Granada is more cultural and still maintains its beautiful colonial buildings and San Juan del Sur is a beautiful fishing town with a community for retirees from all around, real estate prices are the cheapest around compared to Costa Rica and Panama which have the largest concentrations of retirees. Many new high scale residential houses and apartment buildings are being built in and around Managua, many also in San Juan del Sur too. Near the beach is best, very relaxed atmosphere.

Nicaragua is a very good option for retirees. The cost of living is very low. You dont need much to survive. Quality of life is pretty good too. The people are extremely friendly. There are many tourist and historical sites to visit. Its just filled wit h history. In granada there are a great number of tourists so there is acces to many english speaking services. Its a lovely little colonial town. You would love it. Its next to the lake wehre there is a lot to do. There is also San Juan del Sur which is a beach, also tourist packed so a lot of english services available. Many other beaches close to it. Great for relaxing.

Good luck in your search. I highly recommend Nicaragua!!
