Classic Country Fans do they still induct members into the GRAND OLE OPRY?It just ain't nothing like it ..

used to be! I know why MERLE HAGGARD is not a member, but does anybody know why such artist as BOBBY BARE AND GLEN CAMPBELL FOR EXAMPLE never became members? Are there any more standards to follow these days ? It seems that over the last few years ANYBODY could become a member by just SHOWING UP on a sat night!!!!

I'm still upset how they black balled Conway Twitty over the years. The only time he ever won an award was with Loretta Lynn and you know that isn't right!

Unfortunely i've got no longer been to the Grand Ole Opry... i'm no longer able to watch for the day i will make it their. That place is incredibly like the promised land! I even have been to the previous KC Opry (in Independence MO), it incredibly is a a techniques cry from the Grand Ole Opry although i'm confident. yet from the thoughts I heard it was extremely the region to flow returned in it incredibly is hayday. I did see Clint Black and Garth Brooks until now whilst in the previous they have been huge. Clint became into stable... Garth on the different hand stunk, we even left for the period of his overall performance. That became into the commencing up of my dislike for Garth.

Here's what the GOO itself says:

"There's no magic formula, no secret code that grants access to one of the most coveted invitations in all of music.

The decision to increase the Opry’s ranks is, and always has been, made exclusively by the show’s management. The people who’ve been entrusted with the Opry’s tradition and future direction take into account all the standards of success in country music—radio airplay, album and ticket sales, industry recognition—when considering an act for membership. The Opry considers career accomplishment, as well as the potential for continued success."

What a load of b.s. Except for Mel Tillis, who is being inducted on June 9, the newest member on their website is Brad Paisley, inducted in 2001.

Bobby Bare was formerly a member, but resigned.

I found this bit of information regarding Glen Campbell from a CMA Announcement dated August 2005

Campbell will be inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between World War II and 1975" category.

C onway Twitty embodied everything that country was and had grown into. I don't know the rules for membership, but I can't see how such a country music influence that Twitty was that the membership board wouldn't want to honor his influence to the music. Twitty died before he was 60 and he might have even broken more records with his country style if he would have been around to perform. There are so many that are members that added up could not equal the influence of Twitty.

Okie Fan...I agree with Soft Rain....Luv them pics you post. You go Girl!!

I've always thought that Opry thing was rigged to please "The Great Speckled Bird" himself!! Don't know the answer now that he's gone. Maybe Hank Sr. or Elvis could tell us someday.
