Question about being Bipolar????
I have been told I was Bipolar for about 8 years now, however the medicines they put me on (sometimes several at a time) seemed to worsen whatever condition I seemed to be having, they are now saying that I am still Bipolar but that I am hypomanic? And that is why I have been doing well without meds for about 6mos to a year? Can this be true? How do I know for sure that it is Bipolar and not the meds that they put me on that was triggering all the episodes I had that stemmed from depression in the beginning? I want to take meds if that is what I need to be ok, but for the 1st time ever in long while I have been good, normal even. whatver normal is anyways. but I am so afraid that if they are wrong and it was meds that caused my problems that it will happen again when they want me to start up on meds again. any advice welcome, but please be serious, no jokes please. :)

Your meds need to be prescribed by a psychiatrist who is willing to take the time out to work out what meds work for you. It can take years to find the right medication, dosage, etc. There are so many drugs to treat bipolar for all the different aspects of it. You may need a combination of some of these, but any good psychiatrist will help you with your med problems.

It takes a very long time to find the right mix of medication. True, that medication can make things worse because of the side effects. If you up anti-depressants, then it'll make you more manic and too little of it will make you depressed so it really depends on the dosage. You may be doing good right now, but if you're bipolar, you will hit rock bottom later on or go into remission.
Some people take years to get their medications right, but some take less time as well. You may be hypomanic now, but you'll eventually become depressed. So, medications will make it worse (if the dosage is too high) but with the right mix, it'll help stabilize your mood.

I say go with what works. If being off the meds works then don't take them. Sounds like you got the wrong meds for you. My husband is BiPolar and one doctor put him on these meds that made him go mad. Almost landed him in the hospital. When he visited with another doctor and did his research he learned they were the wrong meds for his diagnosis. The doctor said one good thing that came out of it was it caused him to have a fullblown break which he needed to get on the right path anyways, but still. I say get a second opinion.

wel you are not hypomanic cuz i am bipolar too and i am on meds too well when they give you the meds you have to start taking them and with food cuz if you take it like in the mornning before brakefast it would make your stomach really ugly and one day you get up in the mornning you will feel like you dont want to eat anything too so you have to eat a small breakfast so you wont feel like your stomach it is upset or if your meds are makeing you feel teriable well you have to say that the med is makeing you feel one way you should tell them how you feel with it and without it

I hope these meds you are taking are being prescribed by a Psychiatrist. It is their job to know about the benefits and side effects of each, and to evaluate you on a regular basis - and if necessary to adjust or change your meds.
A normal doctor does not and cannot have the knowledge of and experience with these meds.

in case you haven't any longer had any episodes of mania, then you incredibly have not have been given bipolar now. might desire to you strengthen it later, probably, even even though it is not fairly worth stressful approximately it now and making your self greater depressed. Bipolar affliction additionally runs in my mom's portion of the relatives, yet of four youngsters purely 2 human beings have it, and the different 2 do no longer. people who do no longer are nicely previous the age of coming up it now. even whilst bipolar runs in families there is not any authentic way of telling who could strengthen it and who won't. stressful concerning the possibilities merely motives pointless difficulty. in case you start to strengthen indicators of mania, you will comprehend it. that could be the time to communicate on your physician approximately bipolar affliction.

talk to your docters and thell them that you are worried about that and ask them what they think about your better w/o meds idea.
my mom is bipolar, so was her mom, her mom would feel like she was all better and she wouldnt take her meds but then she got sicker. I just asked my mom and she said thats the manic stage where its all happy felling. You NEED to talk to doc next time you see him and tell him. You may be slightly manic now.
