My Canon PowerShot A460 camera does not hold the date & time?
I have had this camera now for two weeks and all else is great and I love it. What is wrong? Me or the camera? Thanks.
Thanks for input so far. I have read the manual at least 10 times. I have also purchased that small battery twice already with the same results. I keep feeling I am still doing something wrong as it holds the dat/time for awhile sometimes. I can't get the camera replaced at Wal Mart because they no longer actively stock this model & I would have to upgrade to a higher level PowerShot. I love this camera. I still tend to think it is something I am either doing or not doing.
I found the answer on the CANON troubleshooting website. That coin battery is charged up by the regular two AA batteries. So, I invested in two new lithium coin batteries for nothing. And, that aspect of being charged up is NOT in the CANON manual. It is on there website.

there is a watch battery inside the regular battery compartment.
it needs changed
or you could return the camera.
or contact canon.

OK. If the date/time menu appears when you switched on the camera, then the probability is that the date battery is low in power. Understand that the date battery was installed at the factory, NOT the day you purchased the camera. You have to buy a new CR1220 lithium coin battery. First make sure that the camera is powered OFF. Flip the camera upside down and you can see a battery cover fastened down by a small cross type (philips) screw beside the tripod hole. Unscrew the cover and slide the weak battery out. Slide in a new coin battery making sure that the positive (+) mark is facing up. Secure the battery cover, then power on the camera. Hope this will solve your problem.

That's hard to say... But if you're setting it properly, per the instruction manual, I'd bet on the camera being bad! Maybe the internal battery that shipped with the camera is defective.
Hopefully, since it's only 2 weeks old you can exchange it for another camera!

Since you've read the manual 10 times and replaced the internal battery, and if you're following the instructions, I can only assume that the problem is with the camera.
Obviously, the date is important to you, or you wouldn't have asked the question. I would probably never know if the date worked or not, because I would never want a date plastered over the photo, ruining it!

All of the Canon Powershot A4XX series cameras have been good cameras. They're nice and easy to use, and take great pictures without spending too much time "learning" the camera. Only thing is that they're are not a slim camera, but instead have a 1960's camera "retro" look. They will fit in a pocket though, as long as you're not wearing tight jeans.

Setting the date and time is usually one of the very first steps you take, when you buy a new camera.
This is done in the SETUP menu.
Read your BASIC user manual...it should be in the first few pages.

did you remember to set the date and time when you first? if not go to the menu and you should find it there
