Coated aspirin is fine for a dog. You should call your vet and find out how much s/he can take. (The size of the dog is important). You do NOT have to buy dog aspirin. NEVER EVER EVER tylenol. PLEASE consult a vet for any medication you want to give your pet.

Aspirin: YES
Tylenol: ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
Give him a baby aspirin or one buffered aspirin. Better yet, ask your vet how much you can give him- he will probably tell you over the phone.
PS- Tylenol-- acetaminophen--is poisonous to dogs and cats, even in small doses.
PPS-Acetaminophen is just too risky to give to pets (cats & dogs) , it's better to avoid it- especially if you have to treat an injury over a period of days. It builds up in the liver and can cause damage.
