I'm traveling from the USA to South Africa. I must use a CPAP machine that helps me breath at night?

Is there a risk that I may need a power converter in Brazil or S. Africa. I really must have use of this machine. THANX ........

Jim

South Africa works on 230 volts, and uses a D or M plug.

In Brazil there is no standard voltage. Most states use 127, some use 220.

    Just a heads up Jim,

as of late theres been some major power outages over here,as theres so many new malls and developments going up here, they've forgotten that all that powers got to come from somewhere, theres been no increase in the power grids or distribution so theres an overload and the circuits trip, sometimes whole cities go without power for days.while everyone scratches their heads and blames everyone else.

    hi jim,

I have to agree with the answer before me, power cuts are regular here - even in the best hotels there is no gaurentee. (Holiday Inn in PE had no power in their rooms recently - generator was used in the passages only)

So please have a backup plan (can it be powered off batteries? or gas?) also when you get here be aware that hospitals are currently striking so keep money aside so if you do get sick you can go to a private hospital.

As for the power converter, you will need one, purchase in the US if possible as we have not seen them available here (only plugs to convert ours to USA kind)

    have a good trip.
