How to help Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang?

China continues to get more and more aggressive, and other countries continue to kowtow to its demands, even the US. Why do we let communist state known for media crackdowns, human rights abuses and unscrupulous business activities tell us that the sovereign and independent nation of Taiwan does not exist? Why do people longer care for the plight of the Tibetans who are under strict Chinese control and allowed minimal religious freedom? And why does no one fight for the independence of Xinjiang, a land of Turks who are close to their brothers in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan?

Why do we let a government that violates so many basic democratic rights dominate people who want to be free?

Is it for the cheap socks? The poisoned dog food? The false medicines?

If China will not have relations with us for acknowledging Taiwan's existence, let them be diplomatically isolated. The free world should no longer tolerate the demands of a tyrannous dragon.

Update:

Sugesting that recognizing Taiwan would be analgous to invading Spain to free the Basque country is more than a little melodramatic.

All regions that wish for independence should be allowed - it can be determined by a simple vote.

Yes, if the Basques, the Bretons and Scots want freedom, they should be given it! It is in the UN charter that all people have the right of self-rule.

Update 2:

For one, China has lied about the "two governments, one country" motto when it comes to Hong Kong. They violated their agreement with the British by not allowing free elections there. And furthermore, if the idea is "two governments, one country," how is this different from China's current view of Taiwan? And if economic development were enough to make countries unite under one government, why wouldn't the entire wolrd join China "once it's developed."

And Tibet? The Chinese continue to rape Tibetan culture at every opportunity, recently they've forced hundreds of thousands of pastoral Tibetans to cities, forcing them to slaughter their livestock. The little train you're talking about is just another attempt to exploit a non-Chinese region for Han interests.

And about not hiding anything? Are you kidding? It's still highly illegal to mention Taiwanese or Tibetan independence - not to mention the fact that the Chinese government controls all media.

Invasion of Tibet: China had claimed it for decades as it was historically part of China. Emperors have wanted it and it was after the world was looking the other way is when Chairman Mao invaded and took over. None of which was right, it would be like Mexico laying claim on California and invaded. But it happened and the Tibetans people suffered. Fast forward to now, China last year finished passenger rail service to Tibet and is encouraging the world to visit. What are they trying to hide now?

The pending invasion of Taiwan: That threat has been going on for over 50 years and is never going to happen. China has laid claim to Taiwan as it was one of China’s provinces prior to Mao taking over. Sure, China and Taiwan dust off their sabers once a year or so, rattle them at each other, then put them away and go back to normal trade, cultural and scientific exchanges and tourism. I suspect all the saber rattling is done to appease the haters. In time, when China’s economy becomes stronger, Taiwan and China will be united for economic reasons and like Hong Kong, it will be under the same concept, one country, two governments. Exactly what China has stated for over a decade.

I hope this clears up a few misconceptions you have of China.

The world runs by the play of various forces, on might call them market forces or trade or whatever but i would say the basis is greed and desire...Ur right the chinese gives us cheaper stuff just like the computer i am typing this message...but the unfortunate result of the play of these forces is all the wars, pain and suffering we see in todays world...China is just one example which has come to our notice..even the so called affluence gained by wrong means gives rise to a wrong attitude like me for eg i always fear that my computer would crash because its of much lower quality than maybe an IBM...but the truth is just that however i may wish otherwise...and yes i tolerate the chinese's wrong doings because they give me this cheap computer....so i wont just blame them but i am also responsible equally...the same thing is happening on a world scale....fortunately there is the overiding law of nature that nothing in the world is permanent...take the eg of Rome caesar, British empire and Genghis Khan....so called almighty people/organisations..all faded away into oblivion...but certainly that does not mean that we should do nothing about put this evil in our hearts and minds...politics, economics, cultural and spiritual....but not through fighting fire with fire that is fire fighting...not a permanent fix...the process has to be more based on the basic goodness in all human beings and accentuate that more in the context of todays high tech world and not some old dogma....then only we can hope for a just, beautiful and peaceful world
