Goats want to be in the house???
We have 3 pygmy goats. The are wonderful pets and we enjoy them thoroughly. As of late, they have become escape artists. We finally resigned ourselves and allow them to stay out.
Evidently they truely wish to be part of our family, as they have now started "knocking" at the door, and when the door is opened, it is a battle to keep them outside. They have also become guard animals. When my hubby's carpool arrived to take him to work, they refused to let him to the door for his usual morning refill of coffee.I know GOATS DO NOT BELONG IN THE HOUSE, nor will they be allowed in. But I have never seen an animal such as a goat want to be inside this much. Is this normal or have I just raised 3 goats who think they are people??? This is my first experience with raising goats. Personally I think we did something right for them to act they way they do, but on the other hand they are goats and we have done something to make them think they are not. No smart answers please. What do u think?
My kids will be deciding the best answer on this one, and we have 5 dogs that no longer have to perform their duties because of the goats.

Where they bottle raised? We have a heard of 25 plus some have kids. From the oldest to the youngest, they always seem to think their "herd" is the two legged if they have had bottles. Also, if you ever hand feed them or give them treats they know where that comes from. They are extremely intelligent and pygmies have the added bonus of being 10X more "precosious"(sp?) than a standard goat. We have herd companions (pyrenees) and they help keep the "pets" in line most days. We use cattle pannels for the garden and outside eating area. They get through everything else. Your car pool may not appreciate the next trick, playing on their car. Have you tried feeding just before they pick up and drop off? Out of sight or in a stall? I personally would never live without our goats. They serve more purposes than any dog or sheep and are full of lovable personality.

I have some friends with the same problem. We were at their home one day and someone was knocking at the back door. They kept ignoring it until I asked if they knew someone was at the door. They said, "it's just the goat" and ignored it. Finally one of the kids opened the door and the goat ran into the kitchen and ate the dog's food.
Maybe it's just a goat thing? They seem smart.

They are just being goats. My pygmy would come in the house in a sec if you let her. I have a friend who has a great goat farm and hers are raised in the house as babies...this is actually quite common. Some pygmies will even house train. Very enjoyable little guys!

I think it's cute, but I don't have an answer for you. Sounds like the goats really love you. I wonder if you can use some of the techniques for curing bad behavior that they use on dogs? Then give a treat or affection when they have good behavior.
