Anyone have an opinion on the Ford Aerostar (97)?

Thinking of buying a used Ford Aerostar with high (unknown) mileage. Coca Cola fleet vehicle. Really wanted the Chevy Astro Cargo but keep getting outbid on eBay. This Ford is $1250. Any opinions?

I own a '92 Aerostar and it has been very reliable and has done very well for me. If it's a fleet vehicle it's been well maintained but probably has very high miles. I'd say $1250 for it is a pretty good deal.

Astro guy can bash Aerostars all he wants. But I've never seen an Astro get 350,000 miles on original engine. The 3.0 engine is hard to kill. The transmission doesn't fair as well, about 150,000 to 200,000 before replacement. And maybe ugly, but the aero design really does help with mpg. And the price is certainly right. Just do yourself a favor and have it gone through with a fine tooth comb, so to speak, and try negotiating the price. Then fix everything and drive it!

I've owned 2 of them, loved em both. My '94 actually would go where front wheel drive cars couldn't in the snow. Surprised me a lot. I bought it used, drove it three years, and sold it for what I paid for it.

As a General rule I do not like mini van,s . I think they are overrated . Areo Stars are known to have problem,s with the Transmission. The price sounds good but if it has not been maintained you will more then likely be pouring good money ot to keep it running. As I said I do not like the mini,s If I did buy one I would get the Chevrolet astro / Gmc Safari , I like rear wheel drive . I have sold and worked on these vehicles and to be honest I am not impressed with any of them both Domestic / Foreign

Astro is 1000% better vehicle and the Aerostar sucks.Sorry, that is just the way it is. But 1250 is pretty cheap so it might be worth it!

Never was considered an excellent vehicle. It is o.k. for cargo work and light towing. At $1,250, keep back $500-$600 for repairs and upgrades. As long as everything works, it would be hard to get hurt. Good Luck!

ok i drive a 92 aerostar xlt and it has a 3.0l with 2 wheel drive if you are looking for good mpg say 22-24 mpg not bad for a van this size (long van) if the one you are looking at is a4x4 with a 4.0l all 4x4 come with a 4.0l then you will get 20-22 mpg max still this is not bad as th GM ASTRO with a 4.3l will only get 18-20 mpg and this is my findings from friends that drive them and my boss has a ASTRO VAN too i see him at the gas pump all the time they have bigger tanks to just so

97 that used to be a fleet truck... it has been driven a lot in town and that would be a lot of wear...

    Not a bad price though.

unknown mileage is not good. if there is no record of vehicle maintenance indicating regular care that's much worse. keep shopping.
