I'm setting up a music website, indie and rock orientated, but what do people want from a music website?

It's easy to think of what people want in terms of content: live dates (updated as regularly as poss.) news, reviews, links to other cool sites (not necesarily music-related) perhaps choose a few "up and coming" band each week to feature - interview them, etc. - this is what makes you different to other sites - pick the right band to feature and people will see that you know what you're talking about and are ahead of the crowd.

The main thing that a lot of sites get wrong is making the layout user friendly - keep it as simple as possible - if people can't find stuff on your site, they'll look somewhere else. Stay away from gimmicky things that look good but actually annoy people when using the site - get your mates to road test it.

Decent song samples, a good bio of the band and each individual. Upcoming shows are pretty important too. Maybe some influences so people get an idea of your music background. Hmm..maybe a FAQ would create some interest for fans and people like when bands TRY to reply back to their comments/messages.
