Why is it that if you transport something in a car it is called a shipment, but if you......?

send it in a ship it is called cargo????

    Why? Because!

    I think that one of the reasons, not the main one, is so when you speak about cargos/shipments (things you are sending) you don't have to explain how they are being transported. Just the word will define it. Shipment call also be used for planes, can't they?

    Oh, I think I get the irony now: CARgo, SHIPment! ha. Interesting, hadn't seen that before
