Looking up living family. Where do i start ?

I am Norwegian and am travelling to the US next week. I have family there that I would like to see, but they have moved from the address that I have. I have tried international enquiery for phone number and I have tried on a couple of the comercial sites on the internet, but i only find the old address. Can anyone help ?

If I learned that family from overseas, had come here and unable to find me, I would be DEVASTATED.

PLEASE, send me a private note through my profile, and I will help, if I can...

Ancestry.com won't be helpful because their "living people finder" is using a database from 1999. But if you go to http://www.whitepages.com/ you should have some luck. If the address on the sites you've visited hasn't changed, then their move is probably quite recent. Try calling the phone number listed. It is quite common in this country for people to take their phone numbers with them when they move. If they don't take it with them, they often have a recording put on the old number notifying the caller of the new phone number.

Checking with folks who reseach dead ancestors at this late date in your plans may not be much help. My first thought is that perhaps you should ask their ex-neighbors when you get there, since you no long have time to wait for a forwarding address through the mail.

the best way to look up family history is through your local library. I currently work at one and many libraries have public databases in which you can sort through all the reference files etc. In fact you can use our database...BUT you have to go through our website:

    www.mcpl.lib.mo.us

then click on "databases" under the "Online Resources"

then go "Geneology" on the left hand side...

then go to "Ancestry Library Edition"

and that should give you a really good start. Here's the catch though...You HAVE to go through all the steps in order to use that Ancestry Database for free. In fact most of the geneology databases THROUGH our website are free! I really hope this helps you out! In fact our Library system is currently building a Geneology Database Center, strickly for geneology purposes. If you're ever in the Kansas City, MO area you should come check us out. Good Luck!

If you go onto www.ancestry.com they have a section called the living people finder, it's excellent. You could also try www.zabasearch.com. hope this helps.
