Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciproal:

    12 / (1/4) = 12 * (4/1) = 48

To add (or subtract) fractions, you must first convert them to the same denominator (in this case multiply 1/4 by 2/2 to convert it to 2/8), then add (or subtract) the numerators:

    1/4 - 1/8 = 2/8 - 1/8 = (2-1)/8 = 1/8

    5 5/8 - 4 1/4 = 5 5/8 - 4 2/8 = (5-4) + (5/8 - 2/8) = 1 + (5-2)/8 = 1 3/8

    1/2 + 1/4 = 2/4 + 1/4 = (2+1)/4 = 3/4

    1 7/8 + 4 1/4 = 1 7/8 + 4 2/8 = (4 + 1) + (7/8) + 2/8) = 5 + (7+2)/8 = 5 + 9/8 = 5 + 1 1/8 = 6 1/8

    Is it 5/8(a million/4 / a million/2) or 5/8-(a million/4 / a million/2)? for 5/8-(a million/4 / a million/2) remedy what's interior the parenthesis first. (a million/4 / a million/2) is a similar element as (a million/4 x 2/a million) To make fraction branch subject a multiplication subject you utilize the reciprocal of the 2nd quantity. So your subject is 5/8-(a million/4 x 2/a million) a million/4 x 2/a million = 2/4 or a million/2 (multiply the desirable numbers then multiply the backside numbers) 5/8-2/4 you ought to locate the elementary denominator, that's 8. 2/4 = 4/8 5/8-4/8= a million/8
