The best fly repellent I have found is "PINE TAR" you can get it at ACE, Farm Supply Stores, Hardware Stores, and sometimes even your vet has it. Ours did because that is what he uses on all his animals. What it is, is a sticky, water-proof, and stinky stuff that the bugs don't like. It acts like a barrier to protect the wound from the flies that are attracted to it. It lasts a lot longer than anything I have used and since it is natural it healed to wound up nicely and kept the pests away. We have used it on our dogs, sheep, and one horse that got a wound that the flies were actually making worse. And it is none toxic. So if he did get some in his eyes or mouth which would be hard to do due to the fact it is on his but anyways it wouldn't hurt him. I hope this helps!!!

Source(s): I always have a can on hand and have also been using it for almost 10 years!

Fly bites do not develope over night. They take days of continuous contact before they develope. You have obviously not been taking proper care of your dog. First, you need to bring your dog inside. Do not take him outside unless you are providing direct supervision. Secondly, continue to wash the area and apply antibiotic ointment. Just applying the ointment will not suffice. The dead skin cells must be removed daily so that new skin can grow and heal. For future references do no leave your dog outside for extended periods of time. If you have to put your dog in a crate inside.

Go to Petsmart or some other pet supply store and buy a spray they make especially for keeping flies off your dog. I use it and it works great.

go to the store and buy some black salve. It stops flies from biting. I used it on my sheep and cows. It works fine for dogs too. You can find it where the bandages are
