Delete everything in the following folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Recent

To see the Recent folder in that path you'll need to enable the viewing of Hidden folders, which won't be turned on by default. Instructions for doing that are here:

    Two ways:

    1. Just like Lecia B said.

    2. Open "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties".

These can be done either by accessing Start>Control Panel>Taskbar and Start Menu or right-clicking the taskbar and select "Properties". When it opens, click "Start Menu" tab.

If "Start menu" radio button is active, click "Customize" to open "Customize Start Menu". In the "Customize Start Menu", click "Advanced" tab, then click "Clear List" button.

If "Classic Start Menu" is active, click "Customize" to open "Customize Start Menu" (with different look) and click "Clear" button.

Use CCleaner to automatically do this and much more.

    CCleaner

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

    Do not install toolbar option

    In options.

Uncheck "only delete files older than 48 hour" if needed

Select secure file deletion and number of overwrite passes if needed

Set to run (clean) when the computer starts.

Place cookies you want to keep in save list

    Find "cleanup.exe"

This will clean EVERYTHING including last opened documents in Word and Excel, internet history, cache, etc.
