Well 4x4 is easy as it usually has a typical 'four on the floor' 'house beat' where the kick hits strictly on every beat of a bar.

2-step was heavily influenced by jungle, and the bass lines play a strong role for the sound. 2-step beats skip the 2nd and 4th beat of very bar. Additionally, besides the first bass kick (which usually rests on the first beat), the other kicks are also moved away from the main beats of the bar and create a busy and skippy feeling. What holds the pattern together is a powerful snare drum on the 2nd and the 4th beat.

Speed Garage is different in that it keeps the extra 2nd and 4th bass kick on each bar that 2-step does not. It also often borrows heavily from R&B.
