Scanned spyware and it shows "C:\Programme\MSN Gaming Zone\Windows\Cmnclim.dll" a suspect.

Cmnclim.dll is related to MSN Gaming Zone.

Cmnclim.dll is located in "C:\Program Files\MSN Gaming Zone\Windows\".

How can I verify it is not a hoax?

cmnclim is part of WIndows XP (also of Windows ME) to support the MSN Gaming Zone.

It is not an essential part of the OS but if you play games, you may need it.

Just make sure the Copyright Notice is OK. It should say Microsoft. The file version on my XP system is 1.2.629.1.

It is always possible that your version has malware attached. If your spyware scanner is from a reputable company (Symantec, McAfee, ZoneLabs), the product website should have more information about what is wrong with your file.

Of course there are always unscrupulous web sites that want you to replace DLL's with "their" version which almost surely will be bad.
